Plan it!
- Get down to a budget, pick a destination that interests you both, the best time to go there, what will be the weather conditions, what do you want to see there, what would you want to do etc etc. Make a list of the things that mean the most to you, and compare notes. Marriage is going to call for lots of compromise, and this is the place to start.
- When you do your calculations, make sure you take everything into account- transportation ticket prices for air, sea or ground travel, port fees, car, taxi, food snacks, meals, in-room service, entertainment entry fees, passes, tickets, shopping gifts for yourselves and those at home, and miscellaneous items. Perhaps, also count on some wedding-gift money to add to your stake.
- If going abroad get your passport and visas in place before the wedding.
Plan Smaller things
- Get a travel agent. It doesn't cost any more, and he or she can make all the arrangements without you having to worry about them.
- When you make reservations, let them know you're on your honeymoon. You never know if something good might surprise you two just because they know you are honeymooning. Like you may get upgraded to a better room at no charge or may be receive a welcome bottle of champagne.
- Rent a car to travel around locally.
Schedule it
- Honeymoon is passionate and romantic and should include in-room massages and spend time in a private Jacuzzi. Schedule it in a way that maximizes your togetherness. Candle light dinners, pool side strolls, unplanned chats, sharing dreams and much more.
- While it's great to know you have plenty of options in terms of things to see and do, also schedule time to do nothing at all; this is, after all, a honeymoon.
- If your honeymoon is too short, you might want to spend it all out of the room exploring your destination. Or it may be otherwise. Discuss things beforehand. Remember, conceptually, a honeymoon is about exploring each other.
Don’t travel without!
- Know the place well before you go, and make a list of things you would need.
- Do not forget to put in things that have been specially bought to make this trip, the most cherished one. Get your lingerie, candles, bubble bath, special dresses, condoms, and a notepad Camera: Buy one if you haven’t. Collect a memorabilia. Take home two albums, one for the family, and one, just for the two of you.
- Spare cash: Just in case there is a need, have it at easy disposal.
Be considerate of your spouse's wishes.
This is about the two of you. Take care of each other’s needs, feelings, and all the ulterior emotions. Be considerate and loving, besides being pampering and passionate. It also about showing understanding and compassion beyond your romantic rendezvous.
Honeymoon is once in a lifetime (for most), so plan, and plan well. But once you are there, just let yourself loose and have a nice time. Don’t struggle too much to make it perfect, it’s just one of the many romantic trips to come.
